Hidden Thread / Незрима нитка

Tatimost — Hidden Thread / Незрима нитка: two women sitting together in a garden of roses at golden hour.

Незрима нитка (Ukrainian)
Hidden Thread (English)

This is the song I sing across distance — to everyone I love who is somewhere tonight that I cannot reach.

Hidden ThreadНезрима нитка — is one of the quietest songs on The Space Between, and in some ways the one the whole album was reaching toward. The Ukrainian title means the thread you cannot see: the invisible line that runs between two people and does not snap, no matter how much air and ocean you put between them. I wrote it as a lullaby. Not for a child. For anyone lying awake in a different room than mine, holding more than a person should have to carry alone.

It opens the way you speak to someone at the very end of a long day, when there is nothing left to fix and the only thing you have to offer is your presence:

Close your eyes, just let it go for a night,
I am here, keeping you safe in my sight.
A woman asleep, lit warmly, at rest.
Close your eyes, just let it go for a night.

I know those tired shoulders. I have watched people I love carry a whole sky and never set it down. So the first thing the song does is take the weight — not solve it, just hold it for a while — and remind them they are not standing under it by themselves. Whatever wants to break, just let it pass through. That line is the closest I could come to what I actually mean when I say I'm here.

Two hands holding, rimmed in gold light.
Whatever wants to break, just let it pass through.

Then the song admits the hard truth underneath it — that the people it is singing to are far away, and that distance has its own kind of fear. I have lived a long time now with a wide stretch of country between me and the places and faces I came from. I write and record here in Colorado; the hearts I am singing to are scattered across an ocean and a war I cannot fix from my desk. The middle of the song names that separation plainly, and then refuses to accept it as the last word:

We are in different rooms, trapped in our dreams,
Behind the windowpane, fear grows in streams,
But there is a hidden path between our hearts
That stays unbroken when the daylight departs.
A thread of light crossing a dark room at night toward a rose on a windowsill.
Behind the windowpane — and still, a hidden path.

That is the whole thesis of the song, and honestly of my life right now. We are in different rooms. The window is real, the distance is real, the fear that grows in streams behind the glass is real. And still — there is a hidden path. Something runs between us that daylight and borders and years cannot cut. Call it love, call it lineage, call it the thread of everyone who came before us pulling gently forward. I only know that I can feel it, and that it holds.

Two hands reaching toward each other with a small star of light between the fingertips.
Reach out and touch me — I am right beside you.

This is also where I'll say something about how the song was made, because it matters to me. I built this — the arrangement, the two voices of it, the whole cozy nest of it — the way you build a place for someone to rest. AI is the instrument I reach for, the loom I string; but the thread itself, the thing that decides what is worth saying and to whom, is not something a tool can hand you. That part is soul, and it is mine. The technology let me weave a shelter warm enough to say reach out and touch me — I am right beside you, and mean it across five thousand miles.

A nest woven out of threads of light, held in the fork of a tree.
The loom is the instrument. The thread is mine.

The song does not pretend everything turned out the way we hoped. It did not happen the way that we sought, it says, plainly. Roads got harder to climb; grey mist is a lot of what we caught. I didn't want to write a lullaby that lies. But it holds onto the belief that a greater wisdom is leading through the night, that the world keeps holding the ones who are still reaching for light — and that where all our roads seem to have ended under the sky, a beautiful and steady star will arise.

A single bright star rising over misted mountains.
A beautiful and steady star will arise.

It ends where a lullaby should end — in a hush, close to sleep. Two hearts beating in time through our tears. Peace to your soul now, it is time you can sleep. By then I am not trying to convince anyone of anything. I am just staying, the way the thread stays.

A woman resting in a hammock surrounded by blooming roses.
Peace to your soul now — it is time you can sleep.

So this is the one I'll say plainly, to whoever is awake in a different room tonight: the distance is real, and it is not the whole story. There is a thread you cannot see running straight to you from here, and it is holding. Close your eyes. I'm keeping you in my sight.
